In its Federal Budget announcement this week, Finance Minister Bill Morneau has announced a $94 million fund to develop a Canadian AI Strategy.
The strategy aims to attract and retain world class researchers, academics and technicians in the field.
The Minister also announced unspecified support for the emerging fintech sector, promising a report later in 2017, as well as 50 million Canadian dollars designated for teaching children to code.
I get it. It makes sense. But I still have visions of Canadian sweatshops full of 9-year old coders – which is clearly not the intent.
